  • Door3 Presents: Bathtub Marys of Somerville by Cathy Piantigini

Join us on Thursday, September 19th, from 7 to 9 PM for an opening reception for the photographs of local artist, Cathy Piantigini.  This body of work examines front yard religious iconography in the Somerville area.  Mary and Jesus statues are often combined with old bathtubs, half-buried in the ground, to create diminutive and personalized grottos.  Piantigini’s work stylishly documents these little monuments, paying homage to their aesthetics while at the same time probing their peculiarities.  Light refreshments will be served at the opening.

  • Door3 presents: Recent Tin Can Sculptures by Jill Comer

    Jill Comer

    Tin Can Alley

Jill is a local resident and long time studio denizen at Washington Street Art Center. She will be displaying recent sculptures (some interactive!) made out of Tin Cans and other homegrown items.

    Opening Reception:

    August 8th

    from 7-9pm

with a special (not to be missed) live performance!

Jill Comer’s mixed media sculptures explore the themes of clumsiness and the everyday. Using elements such as concrete and wood, Comer highlights the often clunky and overwhelming challenges posed by routine objects and activities. “To me, sculpture is like prop-making for the everyday—little things to hold and ponder—objects that bring us back to a less complicated moment.” Expanding upon a longtime hobby—the ukulele—Comer also exhibits several different stringed instruments created with different objects, further illustrating the Frankenstinian nature that characterizes our day-to-day. The Somerville band, Cargo Cult, of which Comer is a part, will be playing at the opening reception. This unique group of musical enthusiasts is composed of artists, home-brew masters, and new parents who play eclectic covers.

    See you there!
